Merchants using the Cardinal Mobile SDK (CMSDK) with Quick Authentication

Summary

Quick Authentication will no longer be supported in the CMSDK as of December 31, 2020. Quick Authentication will remain available via other integration methods (Cardinal Cruise, Cardinal Cruise Hybrid).

Feature Description

Quick Authentication allows the application to send a Bank Identification Number (BIN) to Cardinal Centinel for use by the ACS in running additional risk analysis. The BIN is combined with data collected by the Device Fingerprint URL or the CMSDK to enable risk scoring. This functionality was meant to allow scoring similar to EMV® 3-D Secure (EMV 3DS), but in a 3-D Secure (3DS) 1.0 environment.

Quick Authentication is marked as ‘deprecated’. If used, calls to this functionality will generate a message when compiling an application.

Quick Authentication code is removed from the SDK. If used, calls to this functionality will result in compilation errors.

Alternatives

The recommended replacement is to run an EMV 3DS transaction where possible in a mobile application, or a 3DS 1.0 transaction where that is not possible.

Reasoning

Apple is discontinuing a key element of the solution, the UIWebView. The replacement control does not allow Quick Authentication to work properly. In order to keep implementation consistent across platforms, it is preferable to remove the feature from both Android and iOS.

Additionally, Quick Authentication was intended as an interim measure to provide additional risk analysis until EMV 3DS was fully supported. Now that most networks support EMV 3DS the need for this feature is decreased. This feature has not been widely used within CMSDK.
